Rumi Aoyama’s Lab

The Aoyama Laboratory examines the history and contemporary dynamics of China’s domestic politics and foreign relations from the perspectives of area studies, as well as political science and international relations theory.
The laboratory aims to cultivate researchers and practitioners with a broad intellectual perspective and strong analytical expertise.

ABOUT PROFESSOR

Rumi Aoyama

Director, Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies, Waseda University.
Author of Contemporary Chinese Foreign Policy, which received the Masayoshi Ōhira Memorial Prize in 2008. Former Visiting Researcher at Stanford University and The George Washington University. Joined Waseda University as a full-time faculty member in 2000; Professor at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University, since 2017.

Research interests include China’s foreign policy and foreign policy decision-making, Japan–U.S.–China relations, China’s relations with major countries and regions worldwide, regional integration and security in Asia, and cross-strait relations between China and Taiwan.
